Muriel, was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Joseph John and Kathryn Elnora (Schierholt) Frericks on a blustery 10th of December in 1928. Raised in Iowa, she was a devout Catholic with a kind heart and deep soul.

Her formal education was at St Mary’s Catholic School, followed with an Associates degree from Briar Cliff College, and a Bachelor’s degree from Westmar College.

Muriel had a lifelong devotion to the prosperity and well being of her family. She loved playing golf, playing bridge, painting and was a voracious reader. Her infectious smile and wit drew many dedicated life long friends. Behind that smile was a truly genuine and perceptive person who had the patience of Moses. Her most favorite time was Christmas with her family.

Her passion was found in her classroom where she guided many generations of young Kindergarten minds, preparing them for their academic and personal futures.

Muriel married DuWayne Lowell (Robert) Meneely on the 27th of December in 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA. She was a mother of five children: Steven Meneely and Kim (Meneely) Levin of Half Moon Bay, CA; Knute and his wife Kaye (Smith) Meneely of Jackson, MN; Jodi (Meneely) Klein and her husband Paul Klein of Dunlap, IA; Judd Meneely and his wife Barbara (Dallegge) Meneely of Atlantic, IA.

Muriel was also blessed in life with seven grandchildren, Sophia Meneely, Dr. Anna Maria Meneely, Christian Klein, Carter Klein, Cathryn Klein, Dr. Chet Meneely and Blake Meneely. Dr. Chet and his wife, Dr. Kasey, have extended Muriel’s family tree with three great-grandchildren, Mack, Ginny, and Trace Meneely. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Margie Frericks.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents Kathryn and Joseph Frericks; her husband Duwayne Lowell Meneely; her daughter Jodi (Meneely) Klein; her siblings, Dorthy and Boyde Hauswirth and their son Tim Hauswirth; Patricia and Dan Johnson and their son Jim; her brother, Richard Frericks; her sister, Shirley (who passed July 21, 2026) and Nick Scholer.

Our beautiful mother has had an angel on her shoulder that kept her with us this long. Though she had experienced struggles due to a development of dementia later in life, she never lost her spirit or her smile.
