Orlin Dean Pratt

Orlin Dean Pratt, 91, of rural Remsen passed away on December 10, 2021 at St. Luke’s Unity Point in Sioux City, IA after a brief hospitalization. 

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with Pastor Garret Kasper officiating.  Burial will follow at the Remsen Cemetery.  Visitation with family present will be Friday from 5-7p.m., there will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church.

Orlin was born on April 24, 1930. The son of George and Mary (Conley) Pratt of Kingsley, Iowa. He was raised in rural Kingsley and graduated from Union Consolidated school in 1948.

Orlin married his high school sweetheart and classmate, Ellen Steffen, on January 15, 1952 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. Orlin grew up and spent his entire life on a farm in the Remsen/Kingsley areas. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. 

Orlin loved his family, farming, and telling a few jokes and stories. He enjoyed bowling, watching basketball; especially cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Iowa State Cyclones. Over the years, Orlin loved to vacation/travel with his family and friends, and he never met a stranger that he couldn’t visit with.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife of almost 70 years Ellen. Four children, two sons and two daughters: Janell (Rick) Felts of LeMars, IA, Steven (Melecia) Pratt of Remsen, IA, Scott (Tamie) Pratt of Remsen, IA, and Jill (Doug) Utesch of Kinglsey, IA.

Orlin was blessed with nine Grandchildren: Jeff (Brianne) Felts, Brandon (Stephanie) Felts, Chad (Special friend Kayla Dietz) Pratt, Katy Pratt, Justin (Savanna) Pratt, Cody (Beth) Pratt, Austin Pratt, Jordan (Special friend Ashlyn Williams) Utesch, and Jake Utesch.

Eight Great Grandchildren were the icing on the cake: Brody Felts, Emersyn Felts, Izabel Felts, Hudsyn Felts, Laikyn Felts, Aiden Pratt, Draven Pratt, and Rayne Pratt. 

Orlin is also survived by a brother Richard (Donna) Pratt, sisters-in-law, Pat Pratt, Dorothy Pratt, Rosemary Steffen-Liesner and many nieces and nephews. 

Orlin was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Bertha (Grage) Steffen; his brothers, Wyndom (Charlotte), Donald (Vonnie), Lyle (Marian), Clarence, and Robert Pratt. His sisters, Erma (Leonard) Plendl, Iona (Justin) Sudtelgte, Dorothy (Wendel) Rainboth. Brother-in-laws, Vernon Steffen, Everald (Lois) Steffen. 

Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Jeff, Brandon, Justin, Chad, Cody, Austin, Jordan, Jake and granddaughter Katy.
