Patricia "Pat" Harnack, age 89, of Remsen Iowa passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen, IA.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa.  Visitation with family present will be 4-7p.m. on Monday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. 
 

Patricia “Pat” Pick was born August 5, 1933 in LeMars, IA to Andrew and Mary (Poeckes) Pick.  She grew up on a farm near Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Schools graduating in 1951.  On February 25, 1952, Pat was united in marriage to Clayton Harnack at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  They lived in Manhatten, KS for 2 years while Clayton served in the Army.  After Clayton’s discharge, they moved back to Remsen and later moved to the family farm south of Remsen in 1955.

Pat worked alongside Clayton at Maple Lanes Bowling Alley, which they owned from 1967 to 1977.  She began her 31-year career as a cook at Remsen St. Mary’s School in 1981 and retired in 2012.  Pat then worked part-time with Meals on Wheels until 2017.  Clayton passed away on June 16, 2013.  Pat continued to live on the farm before moving to Remsen in 2015.  She moved to Bavarian Meadows in 2020.

Pat was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish in Remsen and St. Mary’s Guild.  Pat loved to bake and will be remembered for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls.  She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy summers on her John Deere lawn mower and taking care of her flowers.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Pat is survived by her children, Ann Gengler of Oyens, IA, Janet (Mike) Augustine of Moville, IA, Lisa (Chris) Feller of Woodbine, IA and Dave (Amy) Harnack of LeMars, IA; brother (Marvin) Donna Pick of Marcus, IA; sisters-in-law, Marlene Pick of Remsen, IA and Liz Pick of Spencer, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, her parents; father and mother-in-law Herb and Anne Harnack; daughter and son-in-law Mary (Pat) Sheehan; son-in-law Randy Gengler; granddaughter Kari Gengler; sister Mary Lea (Jim) Harpenau; brothers Paul Pick and Ken Pick; sister-in-law Rosie Pick and brother-in-law Milo (Kathleen) Harnack.

Casket bearers will be Scott Sheehan, Jeff Augustine, Jean Augustine, Jordan Feller, Russ Feller and Mark Harnack.
