Paul Raymond Schwebach, age 86 of Excelsior Springs, MO died Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa, with Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery in Alton, Iowa. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 4-6 p,m. there will be a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. www.fischfh.com
Paul Schwebach was born to Theodore and Nathalia (Steichen) Schwebach, on July 10, 1938, in rural Alton. He was raised and educated in the Alton area. He married Bernice Klein on April 15, 1961 in Hospers. They lived in the Hospers and Alton area until 1965 when they moved to Waterloo where they raised their family. In 1986 Paul took a job in Plymouth, MN building houses. He retired in 2003. During those years Paul was a very proud member of the Carpenters Union and Roofers Union. In 2016 Paul and Bernice moved to Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Over the years Paul and Bernice enjoyed bowling couples league, camping and fishing. They also enjoyed traveling and were fortunate enough to visit places like England, Germany and France. Some of their favorite travels were visiting their grandchildren.
Paul was a man who loved to share stories and laughter, always quick with a joke. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather, finding immense joy in spending time with family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand with any project, and no matter the circumstances, if he was invited to a gathering, he'd find a way to be there. His presence always brightened the room.
Survivors include his wife Bernice Schwebach of Excelsior Springs, MO; their children, Kurt Schwebach of Reno, NV, Brenda (Randy) Thomas of Des Moines, IA, Shelly (Patrick) Quick Bear of Colorado Springs, CO, Douglas Schwebach of Waterloo, IA, Wanda (Mark) Schmerbach of Lawson, MO; grandchildren, Lindsey, Brandon, Miranda, Ashley, Emily, Brandon, Brittney, Marissa, Emma, Camden, Kenny, Madison, Sheridan and Kylie; 7 great-grandchildren.
Also left to cherish his memory are seven sisters, Pearl Schnepf of Oyens, IA, Helen Saint Peter of Moville, Rose Mary Wald of St. Cloud, MN, Theresa Bunts of Alton, IA, Donna and Dennis Ailts of Sioux City, IA, Charlene (Denny) Titus. Sioux City, IA, and Lorraine and Bart Marshall of Hawarden, IA; six brothers, Richard (Virginia) Schwebach of Washburn, IA, Rodney (Marlys) Schwebach of Alton, IA, Stephen (Lorna) Schwebach of Alton, IA, Walter (Jo Ann) Schwebach of Alton, IA, Leon (Nancy) Schwebach of Alton, IA, and Larry (Patsy) Schwebach of Paullina, and many neices and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Nathalia (Steichen) Schwebach; brothers, David Schwebach and Marvin Schwebach; granddaughter, Jessica Thomas; brother-in-law Donald Schnepf.
