Richard “Dick” Moritz, 78 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy & Deacon Rick Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 12, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters & Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Dick was born on June 15, 1934, the son of Christopher & Casilda (Frank) Moritz. He was raised and educated in Remsen. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1952.
On April 25, 1953, he married Delores “Dee Dee” Krogman at Remsen where they made their home. Dick ran a Standard Oil bulk truck for several years. Then worked for Bituminous Material & Supply in Remsen for a few years. Dick then became a Plymouth County deputy sheriff for 24 years and retired in 1996. Dee Dee died Jan. 22, 2003.
Dick was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, Iowa State Sheriff & Deputy Association, Remsen Golf Course Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing & playing cards.
Survivors include: his eight children, Susan (Gary) Plueger of Woodlands, TX, Steve (Betsy) Moritz of Estherville, IA, Patty (James) Groepper of Ames, IA, Julie Colling of Remsen, Laurie (Bob) Schleis of Woodlands, TX, Kathy Stuart of Conroe, TX, Rich (Sherrie) Moritz of LeMars, IA; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Faye) Moritz of Remsen, Donald Moritz of Des Moines, IA; one sister, Maxine Pottebaum of Alton.
Preceded in death by, his parents, one daughter Roxanne,
Casket bearers will be, Randy Abbott, Corey, Brandon & Tyler Groepper, Chris, Travis & Dustin Colling, Jesse Schleis & Andrew Moritz.
Honorary Bearers will be: his granddaughters.
