Rick Schorg

Ricke Joseph Schorg, 53, of Lawton passed away Monday, July 25, 2016.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am Friday, July 29, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville with Rev. Brad Pelzel officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the church in Moville. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com.

Rick was born on April 24, 1963 to Dennis and Janice (Cook) Schorg in LeMars, Iowa. He graduated from Remsen St. Mary’s High School in 1981. After graduation he attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. His first job took him to KLBA radio in Albia.

Rick was united in marriage to Mary Beth Harpenau on May 25, 1985 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens. They began their married life together in Knoxville, Iowa. Rick worked for KNIA/KRLS radio station as a live radio personality. In 1989 they moved to Sioux City, Iowa where Rick was employed at KG95 in sales and later general manager at Clear Channel Communications. Rick and Mary Beth made Lawton their home. Most recently, Rick owned and operated Sign Pro in Sioux City.
Rick was a member of the Lawton City Council from January of 2008 until becoming mayor of Lawton. He served as mayor from January 2014 until the present.

Rick was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus. Rick loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Family time was most important to Rick. He enjoyed working with Amanda at Sign Pro and watching Aaron play baseball, football and basketball.

Survivors include his wife; Mary Beth, two children; Amanda and Aaron; his parents; Dennis and Janice Schorg of Remsen, IA, his siblings; Mike Schorg of Remsen, IA, Phillip (Windell Austin) Schorg and Dan (Susan) Schorg all of Omaha, NE, his sister; Suzanne Schorg of Remsen, IA, sisters-in-law; Kelli Schorg Kramer of LeMars, IA, brother-in-law, Craig (Margie) Gruhn of Carroll, IA, sisters-in-law: Kathie (Roger) Nelson of Humboldt, IA, Kristie (Myron) Hirschman of Winterset, IA, Sharon (Pat) Weiler of Pella, IA, brother-in-law; Brian (Tonya) Harpenau of LeMars, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Rick is welcomed into heaven by his brother; Patrick Schorg, sister; Anita Schorg Gruhn, paternal grandparents; Leonard and Ida Schorg, maternal grandparents; Glenn and Mary Cook, parents-in-law: LeRoy and Marlene Harpenau.
