Robert J. Ortmann, 74 years old, of Remsen, IA died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside military honors will be conducted by U.S. Navy, VFW Post 3328 & American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Bob was born on May 27, 1937 at LeMars, IA the son of John & Eleanor (Bohnenkamp) Ortmann. Bob was raised in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 until 1961. He then returned to Remsen and was employed by the Remsen Bell-Enterprise for 20 years and then worked for the Remsen Farmers Co-op Elevator for 22 years. He married Sally Wurth on Sept. 4, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Bob retired in 2000
Bob was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife Sally of Remsen; two sons, Rob of Mesa, AZ, Russ & his wife Marilou of Gilbert, AZ; one daughter, Penny Engard of Fountain Hills, AZ; four grandsons, Jared & Jason Engard, John & Matthew Ortmann; three brothers, Paul, Jerry & his wife Nancy all of Lisbon, IA, Jack & his wife Cheryl of Palo, IA; two sisters, Rita Smith of Lisbon, IA, Betty & her husband Clifford O’Toole of Tyler, MN; two brothers-in-law, Richard Wurth & his wife Janice, Jim Wurth & his wife Mary Ellen all of Remsen; five sisters-in-law, Colleen Ortmann of Windom, MN, Irene Ortmann, Pat Wurth both of Remsen, Delores Wurth, Rose Neilsen & her husband Dale all of Britt, IA; several nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roman & Richard, one sister, Mary Jane Delperdang; four brothers-in-law, Ken Delperdang, Don Smith, Bob & Tom Wurth.
Casket Bearers will be, Randy & Doug Ortmann, Bob Fiedler, Dr. David, Mark & Tony Wurth.
