Roberta Lee Ruden, 66, of Meriden, Iowa, passed away July 2, 2020 at Happy Siesta health Care Center in Remsen, IA, after a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father William McCarthy officiating. Private burial will be Saturday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Visitation with family present, keeping to social distancing restrictions will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Roberta was born on July 20, 1953, the daughter of Vernon and Rosemary(Kilker) Steffen. She was born in Le Mars, IA and raised in Rural Remsen, IA. Roberta graduated from Remsen-Union High School in 1971.
She then married Michael Ruden on May 5, 1973 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They welcomed three beautiful children Corey ,Amber, and Kyle.
In 1975, Roberta purchased Rudy’s Drive In and ran it until 1981. She then worked various jobs until she moved to Chadron, NE in 1987. She owned and operated the City Cafe from 1987-1994. In 1994, she bought the Whistle Stop in Meriden, IA, which she ran until she retired in 2019. She really had a passion for cooking and running her own businesses.
She enjoyed spending quality time with her six grandchildren, telling stories, and she had a love for flowers and plants. Roberta was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
She is survived by her three children, Corey Ruden, of Le Mars, IA, Amber (Kevin) Gengler and their daughters Kierra and Amaya of Remsen, IA and Kyle (Holly) Ruden and their children, Isaiah, Aden, Peyton, and Sophie of Bronson, IA. Her mother Rosemary Steffen Liesner of Remsen, IA. Two brothers Roger Steffen of Remsen, IA and Richard (Lori) Steffen of Kingsley, IA. Two sisters Rochelle (Mike) Tentinger of Remsen, IA and Renee(Rick) Gengler of Port Orchard, WA. Numerous nieces and nephews. And a close family friend Deb Steffen of Remsen, IA.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Steffen and brother Russell Steffen, and a step father Lyle Liesner.
Casket bearers will be Justin Tentinger, Russell, Jared, Richie, Michael and Matthew Steffen.
