Ronald H. Mayer, 55 years old, of Remsen, IA died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his home in Remsen after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy & Deacon Rick Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Ron was born on Feb. 7, 1955, at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars, IA the son of Albert & Ethel (Freking) Mayer. Ron was raised in the Remsen area and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Remsen in 1973. He then attended Northwest Iowa Technical School in Sheldon, IA taking the Power Lineman course.
On Oct. 18, 1975 he married Martha Staab in Remsen. He worked for the utilities department in Paulina, Gowrie & for the past 20 years in Remsen. He also did numerous odd jobs for various members of the community.
Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.
Survivors include: His wife, Martha of Remsen; Two daughters, Ashley Mayer & her special friend Jon Reed, Amber Mayer & One grandson, Bentley all at home; His mother Ethel Mayer of Omaha, NE; Two brothers, Dave Mayer of San Diego, CA, Kevin Mayer & his wife Becky in LeMars, IA; Five sisters, Brenda Goodlett, Janice Merritt & her husband Randy, Carol Mayer, Lisa Guinan & her husband Pat all of Omaha, NE, Sheryl Hall & her husband Darin of Lincoln, NE; His mother & father-in-law, Vernon & Edith Staab of Remsen; Three sisters-in-law, Linda Hofmeister of Cedar Rapids, IA, Diane Vanderlinde & her husband Bob of Colton, SD, Pat Onken & her husband Mike of Williamsburg, IA; Three brothers-in-law, Tony Staab & his wife Nancy of Hubbard, NE, Ron Staab of West Des Moines, IA, Steve Staab & his friend Della Rae Ringel of Remsen; Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins
Preceded in death by, his father, Albert, a sister Mary in infancy, his grandparents, One brother-in-law, Jerry Goodlett, One nephew Kenny Staab.
