Ronald Ruhland, 78 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away peacefully with family at his side from a lengthy illness Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at his home in Remsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice presentation all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.
Ron was born on Nov. 23, 1933, the son of Ben & Leone (Kemp) Ruhland. He was raised and educated rural LeMars attending both rural school and St. Joseph’s School. He then served in the US Army for 3 years.
On Nov. 7, 1956, he married Ellen Thill at Remsen. The couple farmed south of Remsen for 32 years before moving into Remsen. He then worked at Moeller’s Furniture and drove school bus for 20 years.
Ron was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, wood crafting and bowling.
Survivors include: his wife Ellen of Remsen; two sons, Guy (Tammy), Doug (Susie); daughter, Mary Lynn (Fred) Frericks all of Remsen; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Ruhland of LeMars, IA, Danny (Charlene) of Remsen, Glen (Alice) of LeMars, IA; two sisters, LaVonne (Paul) Loutsch of Remsen, Mary Lee (Don) Neubrand of LeMars, IA; two sister-in-law, Darlene Arens & Joyce (Dale) Loutsch both of Remsen; numerous nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by, sister, Joyce Ann Ruhland in infancy, sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Ruhland, Brother-in-law, Don Arens.
Casket bearers will be, Nichole Niehus, Katie Jo Wingert, Rebecca & Amanda Ruhland, Brittney Frericks, Tim Ruhland, Mitch Frericks & Nathan Ruhland.
K of C Honorary Bearers will be, Lloyd Wolf, Keith Arens, Gib Schroeder, Duane Majeres, Tony Delperdang, Alan Loutsch, Dave Augustine & Paul Pick.
