Ruth Colling, 91 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating & Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume Friday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Ruth was born Oct. 31, 1920, at Remsen, IA, the daughter of Martin & Elizabeth (Schiltz) Arens. She was raised and educated in Remsen.
On Sept. 28, 1942 she was united in marriage to Ray Colling. The couple made their home in Remsen. She was a homemaker and a great seamstress. Ray died Sept. 29, 2004. She had been a resident of Happy Siesta since 2010.
Ruth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, church guild & Catholic Daughters of America. Her hobbies include, Crocheting, baking, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her famous angel food cakes.
Survivors include; her daughter, Shirley Lewis and her husband Joe of Fort Dodge, IA; her son, Dan of Remsen; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four brothers, Floyd Arens of California, Marty Arens & his wife Donna, Jim Arens & Tom Arens & his wife Marlene all of LeMars; one sister-in-law, Marietta Alesch & her husband Kenneth of Remsen.
Preceded by: her parents; her four sisters, Janet (Clarence) Langholdt, Elaine (George) McKown, Anita (Vince) Zimmer & Betty (Dale) Price; two brothers, Clyde Arens in infancy & Robert Arens; two sisters-in-law, Betty Arens & Lois Arens.
Casket Bearers will be: Scott, Jeff & Jody Lewis, Chris, Travis & Dustin Colling.
Honorary Bearers will be her great-grandchildren.
