Obituary

Ruth Meis, 79 of Alton, IA died Friday, July 13, 2012 after a sudden illness at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.
      Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, IA with Rev. Gerald Hartz officiating & Rev. Paul Eisele, Rev. Robert Gralapp, & Msgr. Kenneth Seifried concelebrating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton, IA. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.  Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.  Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com. 
      Ruth was born Feb. 16, 1933, at Alton, IA the daughter of George & Lillian (Noethe) Henrich.
      She married Leon Meis on Feb. 16, 1953 at Alton.  The couple made their home on a farm near Granville and farmed for 54 years before moving into Alton in 2007.  Ruth was a loving and devoted wife for 59 years, and an amazing mother to her four childen.
      Ruth & Leon were avid and active supporters of Spalding Catholic as well as their church.  She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
      Survivors include; her husband Leon of Alton, her four children, Paula (Dave) Langel of LeMars, Mark (Judy) Meis of Alton, Barb Meis of Laguna Niguel, CA and Kris (Bill) Koopman of LeMars;  11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; Her brother, Ed (Rita) Henrich; her sister, Mary Sue (Carl) Sierp; her brother-in-law, Roman (Millie) Langel of LeMars, IA.
      Preceded by: her parents, her father & mother-in-law, Leo & Tillie Meis, sister-in-law, Clarice Langel.
      Casket Bearers will be Mick Langel, Rick Logan, Chad & Dean Meis, Toby Scheitler & Aaron Culler.
      Honorary Bearers will be the Spalding baseball representatives.
