Susie E. Vaske, 72 of Remsen, IA passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021 at home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, Jan. 29 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Father William McCarthy officiating, masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour before the funeral on Friday at the funeral home. If you are unable to attend, the funeral will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com
Susie was born on June. 29, 1948 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Melinda (Plathe) Klein. She was raised in Remsen and received her education from Remsen St. Mary’s graduating in 1966. Susie married Al Vaske on January 13, 1968 at St. Mary’s church. They raised their family in Al’s childhood farm outside of Remsen. She worked for 15 years at Wells until her retirement in 2013.
Susie has been a lifetime member of Remsen St. Mary’s Church. Susie loved surrounding herself with her family and working in the garden. She created the best desserts.
Susie is survived by her children: Richard Vaske of Remsen, Laurie (Todd) Gerrietts of Remsen, Angie (Keith) Renken of Remsen, Joe Vaske of Texas, Andrew Vaske of Remsen, Mary Vaske and Tim Mullally of LeMars, Connie (Eufracio) Taracena of Sioux City and Tom & Katie (Theisen) Vaske of LeMars. 21grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her siblings, Jan (Nilles) Klein, Carol (Klein) and Don Ruba, Debbie (Bartholomew) Klein, Nancy and Rick Loehr, Marlene (Feeck) Klein, Gerianne (Roder) Klein, Fred and Elaine (Klein) Jungers, Alan and Lorelei (Bentz) Klein, Marilyn (Klein) Treinen, Marlys (Klein) Ohlendorf, Joan (Reichling) Klein, Norma Klein. In laws: Marian Holzman of Alton, Alvira Schwarz of Marcus, Theresa Reuter of LeMars and Sr. Rosemary Vaske O.S.F. of Dubuque. Several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Elmer, and Melinda Klein; her husband, Al Vaske; parents –in-law Al and Josie Vaske, brothers: Elmer, Dennis, Malcolm, Donny, Tom, Chuck; and sisters: Mavis Kunkel and Alice Reichling. Brothers/sisters-in-law: Don Kunkel, Fred Treinen, Lucille (Victor) Zenk, Sr. Florence Vaske O.S.F, Sr. Phyllis Vaske O.S.F and Loretta Vaske, Gordon Holzman, Marvin Schwarz, Rita (Darrell) Williams, and Robert Reuter and grandchildren: Daniel Gerrietts in infancy, Alex Renken and Matt Gerrietts.
Casket Bearers will be Phillip Renken, Drew Vaske, Marcos Taracena, Christopher Taracena, Adam Gerrietts and Isaiah Gerrietts.
