Viola Irene Zenk, 86 years old, of Alton, IA, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, there will be parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume one hour before the service on Friday at the church.
Viola was born March 16, 1935 at Hospers, IA, the daughter of Leo & Johanna (Stapenhorst) Reuter. She was raised in Hospers and received her education from St. Mary’s Academy in Alton, IA, graduating in 1953. She then began working at Alton Savings Bank and Sheldon National Bank from 1953 until 1957.
On April 27, 1957 she married Donald Zenk at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers, IA. The couple made their home on the Zenk family farm until 1996 when they moved into Alton.
Viola was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, golfing, playing pinochle and shopping.
Survivors include her six children: Rose (John) Klein of Omaha, NE, Patrice (Ted) York of Linn Creek, MO, Tom Zenk of Omaha, NE, Jerry (Angie) Zenk of Urbandale, IA, Pat (Jean) Zenk of Alton, IA and Jennifer (Mark) McCormack of Omaha, NE; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosella Reuter and Joann Treinen; one brother, Robert (Nancy) Reuter; one sister-in-law, Barbara Reuter.
She was preceded in death, by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Arlene Lamphere and Alice Holles; two brothers, Jerome Reuter and Harold Reuter; three brothers-in-law Fred Lamphere, Bud Holles and John Treinen.
Casket bearers will be Tony Klein, Ben Zenk, Jason Zenk, Tyler Zenk, Jack Zenk and Zac McCormack.
