Walter W. Grage, 94 of Remsen, IA died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen, IA.. Funeral Service will be Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with Pastor Dennis Martens officiating. Burial will be in the Remsen Community Cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time at the church Monday. Walter was born April 11, 1917 at rural Remsen, IA, the son of Joe & Dora (Christopherson) Grage. Walter was raised and educated in the Remsen area and then engaged in farming with his father. On July 26, 1945 he married Helen Gottsche at Remsen. They made their home near Remsen where they farmed until retiring on their farm in 1978. Walter did custom combining, windrowing and caterpillar work and also sold seed corn and beans. They moved to Bavarian Meadows in Remsen on Feb. 11, 2010. After his retirement the couple enjoyed going to Sloan to gamble. Walter was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS. He was active in pickup pulls at LeMars, Remsen, Marcus, Merrill and Hinton. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and playing cards. Survivors include: his wife Helen of Remsen; one brother, Arlie & his wife Aileen Grage of Marcus; one sister-in-law, Marge Grage of Remsen. Preceded by, his parents; six sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Bertha) Steffen, Mrs. Fred (Annie) Steffen, Mrs. Clarence (Lillian) Heitmann, Mrs. William (Viola) Gottsche, Mrs. Alfred (Erma) Hansen, Mrs. Gilbert (Marie) Roling; three brothers, Henry, Elmer & Raymond Grage.
