Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2023 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen, with Pastor Alan Cummins officiating. Burial will follow in the Remsen Community Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen with a prayer service at 7. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Wendell was born on May 16, 1938 to Vernon and Rosetta (Meyer) Riedemann. Wendell lived on the farm with his parents, attending a rural country school until 1951, then graduated from Remsen Public High School in 1957. He was employed as a farm hand by Ray Krier, who treated him as part of their family. He drove school bus for Remsen St. Mary's Catholic school, worked at Dorr Produce of Remsen, and operated corn sheller for Milo Harnack for several years. In 1961, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA of Remsen.
On June 7, 1962, Wendell married Caryn Hansen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua lowa. They lived various places in the Remsen area until he started farming in 1967, also in the Remsen area. From the marriage they raised 3 beautiful children. In 2008, they moved into the town of Remsen but continued to farm through the year of 2023. Farming was his passion and most of all loved harvest time when he could get into his combine and reap the fruit of his labor.
Besides farming, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, touring the United States with his wife and several friends. He was a charter member of the former Cherokee Harley Owners Group (HOG) and served as vice president of the Cherokee, lowa club from 1990 - 1992 and remained a member enjoying all the friends he made through the years. He also served on the Remsen cemetery board. He enjoyed riding his snowmobile, trying to climb hills and challenging the local ditches with several friends.
He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and enjoyed watching their various activities.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Caryn of 61 years of Remsen, IA; daughter Laurie (Tom) Bohnenkamp of Remsen, IA; 2 sons, Steven (Kerri) Riedemann of LeMars, IA, Robert (Sherri) Riedemann of Correctionville, IA; Eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Jack) Starr, Joshua (Jessie) Bohnenkamp, Aric (Jasmine) Riedemann, Dustin (Dezirae) Riedemann, Jared (Leslie) Riedemann, Jacob Riedemann and fiancé, Amber Allyn, Nick (Gwen)Putzier, Lance Putzier, Brody Riedemann, Brennan Riedemann and fiance’, Josie McMinemee, Carter (Ariana) Riedemann; 18 great-grandchildren; One brother, Richard (Mary) Riedemann, two brother in laws, Robert (Leanna York) Gotto, Dale (Darlene) Hansen; one aunt in law, Shirley Gerling; and several nieces and nephews, whom he cherished very much.
Preceded in death, his parents, Vernon and Rosetta Riedemann; parents in laws, Allan and Nelda (Gerling) Hansen; one brother, Gordon Riedemann; one sister, Judy Gotto.
Casket bearers will be the grandchildren with the great grandchildren as honorary bearers.
